A NAIRN cultural institution broke the ice last weekend as it reopened its doors for the new season.
Curling is at the heart of Nairn on Ice, the first exhibition of the new season on display now at Nairn Museum in collaboration with Nairn Curling Club.
Through archive pictures, the exhibit explores the history of the roaring game in the town – as well as many of the people involved over the years and decades.
At the opening event held on Saturday around 65 people attended to learn more about the exhibition and the place of curling in local life.
They were also able to enjoy a live performance courtesy of musician David Godden whose latest album has been inspired by the stories that lie behind many of the exhibits in the museum.
Museum manager Melissa Davies was delighted with the success of the exhibition launch, saying it was a really good event with loads of people coming along to show their support and find out more.
In terms of how the exhibition came about, she said: “The Nairn Curling Club got in touch with us and we thought it would be good for locals to identify people in the photos.
“It’s an old sport and has always been popular in Nairn.
“We thought it would be good to add variety.”
The Nairn on Ice exhibition will be on display at the museum located at Viewfield House, Viewfield Drive until June.
