A drop-in centre for those with addiction problems is trying to break the stigma placed on those struggling with the disease.

The Nairn centre recently handed over The Recoverist Flag to Addiction Counselling Inverness.

The flag is currently making its way around Scotland, aiming to get people talking about recovery and promoting and celebrating those who are in recovery from addiction.

Debbie Smith, organiser of the drop-in recovery centre in Nairn, said: “The Nairn drop-in centre were passing the flag onto Addiction Counselling Inverness.

“I am absolutely in awe of being part of the organisation that supports recovery and that we can speak about it and reach others.

“There is so much stigma attached to people in addiction and we want to break that down.”

The flag is the brainchild of the Scottish Recovery Consortium (SRC) which represents and connects recovery efforts across Scotland.

Debbie added: “We want people to talk about recovery, and the SRC have put this together to promote recovery.”
