A barmaid was struck in the face with a bottle wielded by a customer outside a Grantown bar earlier this year.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told Samantha Hay (36) had been in the Claymore Bar on March 17 when words were exchanged between the pair.

Fiscal depute Shay Treanor said the two women went outside where the assault took place.

"Police were called and Hay was traced to her car. Her keys were in her possession," Mr Traynor added.

Hay, of Cawdor Road Terrace, Nairn, admitted being drunk in charge of the vehicle with a reading of 74 mcgs of alcohol when the limit is 22mcgs.

She also pleaded guilty to the assault.

Sentence was deferred by Sheriff Gordon Lamond until July 27 for a background report.
