Civic leaders in Nairn have paid tribute to The Queen.

Provost Laurie Fraser said: "It is with the greatest sadness that we remember our beloved monarch who served us as Queen for over 70 years, and prior to that as a princess of the royal household who showed a great steadfastness throughout her entire life.

"As one who started her early life serving the country in the military during the war, she continued to be a bedrock for us and the world around her throughout the darkest and turbulent times this country ever had.

"She had a great presence and caused all around her to feel relaxed and at ease.

"Almost all of us in the community know of no other monarch and grew up with her as our head of state, a duty of which she carried out with great dignity and presence, giving us all a sense of pride and community in the country, and leading as an example of putting service before self.

"Our thoughts are also with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who will be feeling great loss at her passing.

"Many of us who took an oath of office will remember that we took it to our monarch as head of our service and she under took the duties as head of these offices or services with the greatest of affection and pride.

"Her many duties, tours and visits that she made left communities and individuals with an uplifting experience, and a memorable memory of the event.

"Her sturdiness, impartially to political events and recognition of individual and group achievements made her one of the most loved and respected leaders of our country.

In the town and county of Nairn we will all be saddened with her passing and now will look to supporting King Charles in his new position of monarch."

The Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire George Asher said: "On behalf of the people of Nairnshire I would first like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Royal Family on this very sad day.

"Our thoughts are with them, first and foremost.

"Her Majesty gave 70 years of devoted service to our country and the Commonwealth. Her dedication and sense of duty was evident for all to see."
