A POPULAR Nairn choir is making a return after two years of inactivity due to the pandemic.

The performance at the United Reformed Church will be a tribute to one of its members, Morag Bannigan, who died of cancer in December 2020.

Choir member Cath Stevenson said Morag was a founding member along with musical director Wendy Strath and Janice Keir who were well-known as the singing trio Sunndach.

“It’s the choir’s first performance in two years and we are looking forward to singing again before an audience,” Cath said.

“It will be really poignant for us because it’s in memory of Morag who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.

“She fought long and hard, often turning up to choir practice during chemotherapy treatment with a smile and a joke as was her style.

“Morag in fact, during the final stages of her illness, chose the music for the concert on June 25.”

The Accidentals concerts are always staged to raise funds for charity and it was Morag’s express wish that the first one after Covid be held for The Fire Fighters Charity.

She was a long-standing member of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, latterly as a community fire safety advocate.

“It was a post she loved dearly,” said Cath.

Wendy said: “We are looking forward to making this a very special performance for Morag.”
