A charity based in Fishertown want to support the Nairn community by offering a hot soup and a natter tomorrow.

Green Hive is inviting members of the community to come along for a free meal as part of their 'Souper Wednesdays' initiative.

The charity will serve soup and bread every first and third Wednesday of the month, with other free activities for the community set to take place in between.

Operations officer Fiona Keir said: "It's very exciting!

"We have a new group of volunteers who are leading on it. Mags, who will be leading the initiative is a retired chef who was looking for a new project. Between her and our trustee Elsa they got some funding to make changes to our kitchen in order to be able to deliver the meals.

"We will go up to the Nairn Food Nest for bread and hopefully once the allotments will start growing, we'll be able to get some vegetables and ingredients for the soup."

Every fourth Wednesday, Green Hive will offer a free day out in partnership with Findhorn-based charity Wild Things UK.

"This is of course for the whole community," Fiona explained.

"However we mainly aim to reach Fishertown residents who might be isolated and let them know that there is a warm, safe space where they can go, have a hot soup or drink and socialise."

Since moving into Seaman's Hall and turning the building into their community hub last year, Green Hive has been adding workshops and hosting initiatives from various local groups.

Souper Wednesdays will run from noon-1.30pm.

The first day trip on Wednesday, March 27 is mainly aimed at over-60s and includes teas, coffee and refreshment as well as transport – people can register by contacting Fiona via email at Fiona@greenhive.co.uk
