Next month, ballot papers will be sent out to businesses in the Nairn Connects BID defined geographical area and business owners will be asked to vote on whether the BID continues for a further five years.

I have been the Nairn BID manager for three years and in that time, I really think we have made strides in improving our wonderful town. We have staged numerous events including establishing three core attractions and regular street markets – the next one is on July 15.

We have battled our way through Covid, taken over the Visit Nairn brand, lobbied about the A96 and secured £190,000 of extra funding that has all been spent on improving our town.

Working with local businesses and the community, Nairn BID is here to restore Nairn’s reputation as a place to visit and shop and make it a more attractive place to do business. The BID, we believe, is now an established part of our town’s community. We are striving forward, but there is still work to be done.

Over the next five years, the business plan lists our plans to continue the popular events, hanging baskets and Christmas lights, as well as apply for more funding for a heritage trail and traffic reduction on the brae. We can only do this if we get a yes vote from members.

Thinking about Nairn without Nairn BID doesn’t make sense to us. Who will continue the hard work?

Lucy Harding is the manager of Nairn BID.
