The drama has smashed previous Channel 5 drama records, Broadcast is claiming, after an eventful first episode introduced newcomer Nicholas Ralph as a young vet who leaves Glasgow and faces some testing times before earning his job with the Farnon veterinary practice in the Yorkshire Dales.

Maximising on the stunning landscapes of the area, the first episode also included a meeting for James with love interest Helen Alderson, played by Rachel Shenton – and a close encounter with her family’s huge bull, Clive.

Young vet James also has his first difficult calving and impresses his new boss Siegfried (Samuel West) with his skills and knowledge treating horse’s hooves.

The series continues next Tuesday on Channel 5 at 9pm.
