It is an unlikely yarn… but one to bring a smile to local faces.

A mystery knitter in Nairn has been decorating post boxes around the town with their colourful woollen creations.

The nifty needlework was first noticed last Christmas when seasonally-themed adornments first appeared.

The latest series celebrates Easter, with intricately purled bunny and chick designs wrapped around the red post boxes.

One Courier reader, Duncan Mason, photographed several of the designs (above and below) and got in touch to say: “I personally have no connection with the person or persons who have knitted the decorations, I’m merely an admirer.

“Whoever it was, seems to have gone to a lot of bother to put a smile on everyone’s face while posting a letter.

“The same thing was done for Christmas 2021 and I have been told to look out for the Queen’s Jubilee in June.
