An Inverness theatre group is celebrating its first sponsorship deal for a show.

Inverness Musical Theatre (IMT), which is staging Legally Blonde – The Musical at Eden Court this spring, has secured sponsorship from city pub, Johnny Foxes and The Den.

The pub will create a special Bend and Snap cocktail – a reference to one of the memorable scenes from the 2001 movie – and there will also be the chance to win tickets to the opening night by submitting a video performing the Bend and Snap move.

The show will be staged from March 28 to April 2, and it will be the group’s first post-pandemic production as its last show, Hello Dolly, was cancelled the week before lockdown. Plans to stage Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat were also thwarted.

IMT chairwoman Morven Reid said: “It’s been incredibly difficult.

“But we have decided to be positive and keep going.”

She said the sponsorship deal was substantial and would help the group to balance the books at a precarious time.

“Obviously it is really expensive to put on a show like this,” she said.

“One of the things we had been talking about is to try to get sponsorship from local companies.”

She said it would help offset the costs of costumes and rehearsal space.

“It is also about building a relationship with a local business which might help sell tickets,” she said.

She approached Don Lawson, the proprietor of Johnny Foxes, who agreed to sponsor Legally Blonde which she described as “a high-energy, fun, sassy show.”

“We are delighted as it is such a high-profile business,” Mrs Reid said.

Cast member Andrew Gill, also works in Johnny Foxes and is going to create the Bend and Snap cocktail.

“When people buy one they will get a card with details on and if they click to that link they will be taken to a video of the Bend and Snap routine,” Mrs Reid said.

“We will ask people to upload their own Bend and Snap move and the best one will get tickets to the opening.”

Don Lawson is delighted to be helping a community production and said by coincidence he recently watched the Legally Blonde film, adding: “I think there are a lot of lessons about life to be learned from the film – about believing in yourself, never letting anyone tell you that you are not good enough and about being trustworthy.”
