While The Music Shop has only been at its current location since February 2018, it has had a presence in the city centre since 1986.

It started out in Queensgate before moving to its first Church Street address in 1992 where it stayed for the next 26 years.

The Music Shop is still run by the same family – owned by Roger Catherwood and his two sisters – and was originally set up by their parents Len and Moira.

Mr Catherwood said the recent move took place after they bought the Music Station and added: “We moved into the premises. The owner was looking to sell the business and we saw it as an opportunity.”

Music is in their blood as his parents were both musicians who moved to Inverness from Liverpool – a city with a strong musical association – and Mr Catherwood said he enjoyed playing guitar.

He said they had been busy since reopening and added: “I think footfall is down, there’s no doubt about that, but the average person is spending more and coming in with a purpose.”
