A mum-of-three has thanked readers after she shared her story asking social services for her daughter, who currently lives in care, to come home and live with her.

Chantelle Mackay (25), who lives in Nairn, made a plea for her six–year–old daughter – who was returned to a care setting after her adoptive home placement broke down – through the Courier last week, and since then has been overwhelmed with the support she has had from across the region.

Ms Mackay, who is originally from Inverness, said as soon as she stepped into her newsagent to buy a newspaper last Tuesday, someone approached her with support. “I wasn’t expecting the story to have such an impact,” she said. “When I was standing in the queue in the shop, a woman approached me and said ‘that’s you on the front page, good on you’.

“Since then it has been overwhelming to hear from so many people that they support me. I wasn’t expecting it. Thank you to everyone.”

She continued: “I have also been contacted by some people where the same thing has happened to them, and they’ve said I am brave. I don’t feel brave, I just know my daughter would be better off with me.

“I am now waiting for the courts to get back to normal after the pandemic and I can take the matter to court.

“My daughter belongs at home, we love her and we want her back. Every day is a day too many.”
