24 motorists caught speeding on North Coast 500 during weekend police operation

A police operations on the North Coast 500 route has resulted in 24 drivers being charged with speeding offences.

Officers from the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit carried out the operation on the popular route over the weekend.

Speeding offences recorded in south Highland area up almost threefold

In addition to the 24 drivers charged with speeding, one driver was charged with careless driving, one individual was found to be driving an unregistered vehicle on a road without insurance and a valid driving licence while two other offences relating to vehicle documentation were detected.

PC Taylor, of the Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit said: "The NC500 is a beautiful route, but it's important to remember that it's also a public road.

“We are committed to keeping the NC500 safe for everyone who uses it, whether they are local residents or visitors enjoying the scenery.

“This weekend's operation is a reminder that we will take robust action against those who choose to put themselves and others at risk through their manner of driving.

“We encourage all road users to be responsible and follow the rules of the road.”
