A motorist who caused a woman to crash her car into another has reimbursed her for the £1500 repair bill, Inverness Sheriff Court heard.

Patryk Boniek, of Drynie Avenue, Inverness appeared before Sheriff Gary Aitken and admitted driving carelessly on September 15, 2022 in Culloden Road.

He was fined £470 and banned from driving for six weeks.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh told the court that the 24-year-old had overtaken a Ford Fiesta but pulled in sharply and "slammed on the brakes".

"The woman in the Fiesta behind had no time to react and she collided with another car," she said. "Her car was extensively damaged."

Sheriff Aitken said he did not have the power under the Road Traffic Act to order compensation.

But Boniek's solicitor advocate, Clare Russell, said his client had saved up the money to compensate the other driver and that she would ensure the cash gets to her.

Sheriff Aitken told Boniek: "This was an ill-advised piece of driving and a disqualification is inevitable."
