The team supports its customers and the wider community through numerous initiatives which shows clearly that our locally based businesses not only provide the employment, goods and services we need but that supporting local works both ways.

Store manager Robert McMillan and community champion, Kylie Omand told us about some of the amazing community work the supermarket is doing for Inverness and the store refit which will be unveiled on November 24 – just in time for the festive season. The ribbon cutting is around 9.30am but the store will be open at 7am as usual.

Q. Tell us about Morrisons community champions.

A. Morrisons community champion is a store contact who deals with requests from charities and local community groups, to provide support with prizes and donations for events being run within our local community. I, as the community champion, along with my colleague Catherine also maintain the ‘pick up packs’ that we have on sale in the store. These are then purchased by our fabulous customers and distributed to local food banks.

Q. What’s happening at Morrisons during the festive season?

A. Within the store we will be having some acts of kindness days where I will be handing out small gifts to customers while they are shopping in the store. We will also be having The Rotary Club of Inverness Culloden joining us just outside the store on December 17 with Santa and his sleigh. Alongside this we will have lots of special offers throughout December.

Q. How does Morrisons support the community?

A. Alongside ensuring ‘pick up packs’ are available for the local food banks, we also have our giving tree which this year is raising funds for Inverness Foodstuff. We have also had our ‘ask for Henry’ initiative that provided customers in need with a free meal of baked potato with beans in our cafe. Along with all this and the donations to community events through the community champion, Morrisons as a company have provided over £15 million worth of food donations since 2020, which has allowed our store to support a large number of local food banks to help them to tackle food poverty.

Q.What’s been happening in Morrisons recently?

A. Our customers will have seen all the work that has been taking shape within the store over the past few months as we have been going through a major refit. We are delighted to have our car park almost back to normal and we are looking forward to officially launching our new-look store on the morning of November 24 just ahead of the festive season.

Q. Tell us something about Morrisons that might surprise people.

A. As part of our refit we have been provided with a community room that will be launched shortly, this room will be available to book for meetings, small group meets, quiet study space etc and has been put in as a free space to benefit the community. This space will be bookable through myself as community champion and further information will be provided soon via our Facebook page Morrisons Inverness Community Champion.

Q. Who are your city centre stars?

A. Cafe 1668 and Inverness Foodstuff for the fantastic work they do providing the local community with the donations we supply them, Mikeysline for the amazing work they do in providing vital support to those who need it, and also One of a Kind in the Eastgate Centre as they have such lovely unique items and perfect gift ideas.

Q. What makes Inverness city centre a great place to visit, shop and work?

A. Inverness city centre is a great place to visit due to the marvellous range of places to shop, from independent retailers to national retailers, an array of delightful places to enjoy a bite to eat whether that be sit in or on the go, there are so many options to choose from. It is also a great place to work as being so central it is great to meet such a wide range of customers.

Q. Why is the Inverness city centre gift card the perfect present this festive season?

A. It caters for pretty much everyone with a fantastic selection of places, from clothing to food, coffee and cake or a meal out. It is a very versatile gift idea as the person gifting does not need to select one spending location.
