Power company SSE said properties in the Inverness area lost power after an electricity cable was damaged near one of its substations at 11.54am today.

The cable was cut accidentally during digging work by a non-SSE related firm, but power was restored to all affected within the IV2 postcode by 1.07pm.

An SSE spokeswoman said: “This was a large outage and we would like to apologise to the many customers affected in various parts of Inverness.

“This was caused by damage to a power cable by a third-party company.

“Thankfully, there was no harm or injury caused to workers at the site and our engineers were able to quickly attend and restore power relatively quickly.”

SSE said they had received no reports of power cuts outside Inverness.
