POLLING stations across the Highlands will be open from 7am-10pm on Thursday for people to cast their vote in the European elections.

Already more than 16,551 people have returned postal votes in the Highland Council area. Those still to post their vote must do so by Wednesday, or take their envelope to any of the Highland polling stations on Thursday before 10pm.

Council chief executive Donna Manson, who is the local returning officer, said: “We want to make sure people know that they should use a single X when they vote in this election.

"The X should be placed in the empty box alongside the chosen party or candidate. Everyone who is registered to vote should have received a card with details of the polling place where they can cast their vote but if they have any queries they should get in touch with our election team on 01349 886657.”

The Highland count will take place on Sunday at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall from 4.30pm.
