THE layout for two new modular class units in the grounds of Croy Primary School has been reassessed so that the least amount of playing space is lost.

There were concerns about loss of open space when Highland Council applied for permission in principle leading to a rethink. The school already has a temporary modular unit in its grounds, providing two additional classrooms. Full planning permission is sought for a further two units, giving four more classrooms.

With house building continuing at pace in the area, there is space pressure on local schools.

The reassessment also agreed that dissecting the site with a road was not an ideal solution “for the amenity of the school’s learning environment”.

It is now thought that a neater solution than forming a new junction onto the B9006 would be a new exit - with a one way system - onto Dalcroy Road. A design report states: “The new modular units are then set out to the north eastern boundary to create an inner courtyard and maximise playground space.”
