The Aberlour Hotel was pitted against other hoteliers and bed and breakfast owners from Dunkeld, Turriff and Peterhead.

Kellie Spooner and Alison Taylor, who run the hotel, were tasked with proving that their hotel provided the best value for money over the course of a gruelling two-week schedule of filming while also visiting the other establishments.

Each pair had to decide the amount of money they felt their stay warranted based on numerous factors including breakfast, room size, cleanliness and overall experience.

And, after all was said and done, the Aberlour Hotel were crowned winners for the week after the other pairs overpaid by 17 per cent.

"It was great," Kellie said. "We obviously had to keep it a secret for a bit but these things always seem to get out there.

"It was long but it was great for us and it was great for the community as well.

"We didn't go in to win to be honest. We just wanted to enjoy it.

"Yes it's a competition but we just wanted to showcase Aberlour and the hotel."

Kellie was asked to go on the programme in early 2022.

Initially she had doubts as to whether she wanted to feature having never watched the show before but after consulting with Alison it was decided that they would go for it.

"We were asked to go on and we had to do a wee interview to see if the cameras liked us and what we had to offer for the show," Kellie said.

"We did that and it was filmed in May last year.

"Although on the programme it says one week, it's actually filmed over two weeks from seven in the morning to 12 at night every day so it was pretty full on."

The show has garnered a reputation for being somewhat feisty at times with contestants often clashing over minor critiques of each other's establishments.

However, Kellie says she was pleasantly surprised by how well everyone got on during filming for her stint on the programme.

She said: "I was a little worried but no I was quite surprised that everyone got on well and didn't say anything nasty.

"They were a lovely bunch of people and any of us could have won.

"I was worried as well because my face tells a picture. My eyes roll and I can't half keep my expressions to myself but no, they showed us all in a really great light.

"We just thought we'll go and be ourselves. We weren't game playing or anything like that either. We were truthful so we're really chuffed."
