dents alerted Inverness South councillor Ken Gowans to the problem on Culloden Road and Tower Road.

Highland Council said parts of the network had been put on constant supply to enable sensors which monitor traffic flow.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: “Some of our street lighting was on permanent 24hr supply to enable Covid sensors which monitor traffic flow through the city to work effectively.

“Most sections/sensors had dedicated SSE supplies installed but the section in the area of Culloden Road (B9006) and Tower Road has proved more challenging and the supplies are hoped to be tied in to planned signalisation of the junction.

“In the meantime an order for individual photocell controls for each light has been placed but the time-scale for delivery has proved challenging.”

Councillor Gowans said: "I understand the supply is challenged due to Brexit mainly, however this does expose the vulnerability of the design.

"At time when the council needs every penny this sends out a very visible and wrong message to the public, there is also the annoyance factor too.

"The worrying aspect of this is the officers are unable to provide a timescale for repairs several months on."
