Highland Deaf Children’s Society is celebrating its 50 anniversary.

It is a local group to the National Deaf Children’s Society and supports deaf children, and their siblings and parents/carers, throughout the Highlands.

Society spokeswoman Leanne Rodden said: “For deaf children life can be difficult, tiring and stressful.

“At our clubs, children of all ages with any type of hearing loss can meet, socialise, relax, share experiences and have fun together with no communication barriers, something they cannot enjoy in everyday life.

“This helps build self-esteem, confidence and reduces feelings of isolation, which is common for deaf people.

“For many this is the only opportunity they get to do this.”

The group is run by a small committee which is made up of parents of deaf children and professionals who work with deaf people.

HDCS provides support through clubs and outings.
