Met Office weather warning for snow and ice in Highlands extended again with temperature likely to plummet to -5C on Monday

A MET Office weather warning for snow and ice has been extended again.

The first warning was issued last Saturday and kicked in on Wednesday.

Some parts of Ross-shire have since seen accumulations of snow with a number of schools in Wester Ross - at Gairloch and Poolewe – were affected due to difficulties with school transport.

A delivery van left the road on the A835 between Garve and Ullapool on Thursday morning.

A Yellow warning for snow and ice for the Highlands has now been extended to Monday, December 12 at noon.

The Yellow warning states:

Snow and ice will lead to difficult travel conditions.

Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The forecast for Sunday sees the temperature dipping to -3C first thing in the morning. It is expected to be -5C first thing on Monday morning.
