A YELLOW weather warning for strong winds will come into force later this morning.

The Met Office is warning of winds of up to 75mph in some exposed spots.

The warning, which comes into effect at 9am, is expected to remain in force until 11.45pm.

It covers an area from the Outer Hebrides to just west of the Great Glen and Black Isle.

A Met Office spokesman said: “A deep low is set to develop near north-west Scotland. Gusts of wind of 65-75mph are expected in places, so be aware that there may be some further disruption to travel.

“The system is complex, as it initially involves two separate low centres, one of which swings round to the south-west of the other.

“One effect of this is to enhance the swathe of very strong winds, but it also means that the exact outcome is more difficult to determine, so further updates to this warning are likely.”

High wind speed warnings are currently in force on the Kessock, Dornoch and Skye bridges.

Most flights out of Inverness Airport appeared to be operating as normal, although the 7.25am depature to Stornoway was listed as "delayed" at the time of writing.
