AN Inverness Primary school had to close today after being left without power or water.

Merkinch Primary Scholl announced earlier today on their official Facebook Page that they were closing following a power cut.

They asked parents to contact them via Facebook message as the school's phone lines are currently down.

A school spokesperson said: "Apologies all. We have a power cut and no water therefore we will need to close. Please come to the main reception to collect your children as soon as possible."

They asked parents of children from P4 or older to message the page if they'd like them to walk – all younger children will need to be collected by an adult.

SSEN have reported a power outage in the area starting at around 10.45am and affecting homes in postcode areas IV2 and IV3.

Their website reports around 148 customers affected. An engineer is on site and power should be restored by 1.30pm.
