AN Inverness man became enraged when a brick was thrown through his window in broad daylight, a sheriff was told.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 34-year-old Michael MacBeath then chased Ryan Renicks with a wooden baton. However, before the incident escalated, four police officers arrived at the scene, causing Renicks to leave the area and MacBeath to return inside his flat in Caledonian Road.

He was arrested a short time later on April 29.

MacBeath admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and was jailed for four months after sentence had earlier been deferred for a background report.

Fiscal depute Martina Eastwood told Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald previously that Renicks had been seen shouting at MacBeath’s flat before MacBeath appeared with the baton also shouting and swearing.

“He was then seen chasing Renicks down the street, banging the baton on garden fences in a menacing manner. Police were contacted,” Mrs Eastwood went on.

Defence solicitor John MacColl told the court that there was “a degree of provocation” as a brick had smashed his window.

“He recognises his wrong-doing but felt he was goaded,” Mr MacColl added.
