A collection bucket in the Co-op in Culloden over the summer raised more than £720 in the name of former employee Laura Black.

Head teacher at Duncan Forbes Primary School, Wendy Mackay, said: “We plan to use the money to buy play equipment for the children to enjoy in the playground.

“Lucy and Joe Black were presented with the cheque in their mum’s memory.”

Mrs Black died aged 37 and had a collection at her funeral in April for the school which came to £750.

Mrs Mackay added: “Mrs Black’s family wanted to acknowledge the supportive community around Duncan Forbes Primary.”

The money raised at the funeral helped to create a special memorial garden at the school, a quiet area where grieving children can go to find peace and mourn.

Over the course of 18 months Duncan Forbes lost four mothers Nikki Andrew, Olivia Hamilton, Debbie Woolley and Laura Black. The affected children had an opportunity to plant flowers in memory of their mothers.
