A dangerous building notice will be issued to the owner of an Inverness city centre property after masonry fell onto a pavement.

Police cordoned off part of Church Street near the Three Virtues trees yesterday evening.

Although the cordon has since been removed, a Highland Council spokeswoman said: “Following a report by police of falling masonry on Church Street yesterday evening the immediate area was secured by police for public safety and so that the council’s building standards team could investigate.

"Building standards are making contact with the property owner as an inspection of the roof will require to undertaken by the owner. The council will be issuing a dangerous building notice on the property owner.”

It is understood nobody was injured by the masonry.
