INVERNESS Ice Centre could soon boast a temporary marquee to help it host "seasonal events" under plans lodged with Highland Council.

The ice centre charity is seeking to erect the marquee in the site's car park in the Bught, as well as establishing "outside seating and [a] catering area for seasonal events".

Details as to what sort of events the marquee would be used for were not included in the application.

However, comments from the council's transport planning team, which were submitted in response to the application, added that the marquee would likely be placed on site between mid-June and August 31 during summers, and that when events were held, the operating hours could fall somewhere in the range of 8am to 10.30pm.

They added that when the marquee is in place it will reduce the size of the car park from 66 spaces to 47, and requested that the applicant submit a "transport statement" outlining how many visitors would be expected during these special events, what type of event they would be, and how the marquee's presence might impact on the two other businesses which use the same car park.
