An Inverness marketing agency has won the employee choice category at the Living Wage Scotland Awards.

Teclan, which is based in Harbour Road, was shortlisted for the award alongside fellow Inverness digital agency Yellow Cherry and Glasgow non-profit The Wee Retreat.

Out of six award categories, the employee choice category presented the opportunity for employees who have benefited from a Living Wage to nominate their employer in recognition of their engagement with the scheme.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually, based on the cost of living in the UK. In 2014, Teclan became the first private business to become an accredited Living Wage employer in Inverness.

Since then, the company has evolved as a full suite marketing agency delivering results for businesses across multiple sectors.

As a Living Wage employer, the business has been able to employ and nurture new talent within the Highlands, ensuring their work and development is fairly rewarded.

Teclan was nominated for the award by 20-year-old Caitlin Maclean, now a project manager for the company, having joined the team as a trainee web developer earlier this year.

Celebrating the win, she said: “It is fantastic news that Teclan have won the employee choice award. I am extremely grateful to Teclan and the real Living Wage for giving me this opportunity to progress in my career and also be able to save for my future at the same time.

“I grew up watching my parents work very hard for a low income and it really means a lot to me that companies like Teclan are paying people what they deserve.

“It is a joy to now be a part of such a positive work environment where your worth is recognised and rewarded.”

Teclan’s managing director Fergus Weir said: “I am incredibly proud to have received this award.

“A real Living Wage is incredibly important for employees on many levels, and I am personally delighted as this employee choice award confirms the difference a Living Wage makes to our employees’ lives.”

He said it was good to see other Highland businesses embracing the Living Wage and making a difference.
