Glen Urquhart High School pupil Manon Robinson collected a prize at the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) Star Awards.

She was highly commended in the school candidate of the year category at the event in Edinburgh after achieving seven Highers in the past year.

Despite having five Highers on her school timetable, she also studied Higher French, and Higher German largely in her own time. As well as the high workload, Manon still found time to play school football, and coach younger pupils on the school’s junior teams.

Now in her sixth year, she is studying Advanced Highers in history, French, English and modern studies.

She was nominated by the school’s depute head teacher Iain Fulton.

Highland Council’s Learning and Development Assessment Centre was highly commended in the lifelong learning centre award category. Based in Inverness, it covers the whole of the region, providing academic and vocational qualifications support.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney said the awards recognise the hard work and achievement of people across Scotland.
