A man is to stand trial later this year charged with threatening and abusive behaviour towards a former partner.

Ronald Payne (36) pled not guilty to the offence at Inverness Sheriff Court.

His trial has been set down for July 18.

Court papers allege that Payne, of Golf Vew Terrace, Inverness held a mobile phone to an ex-partner's face causing her to strike herself on the mouth.

Prosecutors also claim he shouted and swore during the alleged incident on August 17, 2021, refused to return a house key, uttered threats to harm himself and repeatedly struck a door.

It was said to have taken place at an address in Stuart Street, Arderseir.

The charge Payne faces also includes a domestic aggravation due to the pair's previous relationship
