Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald heard the case at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Police received a report of a man loitering in gardens in the Culcabock Avenue area of Inverness in May last year.

When officers went to investigate, they found 34-year-old Dayne Cairns, of Mackintosh Road, Inverness in the rear of one of them.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he was stopped and searched and a knife with a three-inch blade was found in his sock.

Cairns admitted unlawful possession on May 25, 2022 of a blade without reasonable excuse.

Sentence was deferred by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald until July 4.

The sheriff decided to await the outcome of a drug treatment and testing order assessment that had previously been ordered for June 26.

But she warned him all options were open to the court.

"You have four analogous convictions so a period of imprisonment would not be inappropriate in this kind of case," said the sheriff.
