A man in his 60s was taken to hospital after a Caledonian charter boat ran aground near Loch Ness last night.

Crews from Inverness lifeboat and coastguard rescue team attended the scene near the north end of the loch around 7.35pm on Sunday, after reports of a grounded boat at the Dochgarroch weir and a dinghy in the water were reported to Aberdeen Coastguard.

Upon arrival the RNLI crew found the stranded vessel with all lights off and no sign of anyone, but then found the dinghy – with the man aboard – on the other side of the weir. After helping walk the man from the weir and over the lock, members of the RNLI crew administered casualty care.

The man, who was said to have suffered minor injuries and the effects of the cold, was then transferred to hospital by ambulance at 9.08pm.

The stranded vessel was towed from the weir and back to its berth at 8.24pm.

The lifeboat crew was stood down by the Coastguard at 9.17pm and was back at its base in Urquhart Bay by 9.53pm.

AN RNLI spokesman said: "It was another great example of collaboration between the agencies: the Coastguard, their mobile team, Police Scotland, and Scottish Ambulance Services."
