Ambulance technicians were treating the man when he lashed out.

Two police officers arrived in Bank Street, Inverness on August 15, 2021 last year and found ambulance technicians treating 27-year-old Andrew Chalmers, of the city's Muirtown Street.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke tod Inverness Sheriff Court that Chalmers was strapped onto a stretcher to prevent him falling off, but as he was being placed in the back of the ambulance he became aggressive and pulled himself free.

He then slapped one of the constables on the arm.

“The officer did not need medical treatment,” Ms Poke said. “Chalmers was put to the ground and handcuffed.”

Sheriff Sara Matheson asked Chalmers if he had an alcohol problem.

He replied: “Yes, I am taking alcohol counselling and getting on well.”

Fining him £380, the sheriff told Chalmers, who admitted police assault: “We can’t have you out of your face on a bench. You have to think of your age and your health.”
