The father of a Western Isles man was shocked by his son's behaviour after he accompanied him to Inverness Sheriff Court to hear that the 22-year-old had spat at a police officer.

Defence solicitor Patrick O'Dea said that he had been told by Calum Macdonald's parent: "As a child he was shy."

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Macdonald, of Creagorry, Benbecula was very drunk when the incident occurred on March 26, 2022 in Bridge Street, Inverness.

He had pleaded guilty to resisting arrest after police approached him outside the Gellions by struggling and shouting insults at them before spitting, which missed.

Mr O'Dea added: "He is ashamed and remorseful for his conduct."

Fining Macdonald £1040, Sheriff Gary Aitken told him: "Conduct like this is completely unacceptable. If you are going out to drink, you must pay attention to how much and what you are drinking. I trust I will never see you here again."
