A Sutherland man who shouted and swore at his pregnant partner causing her to call the police has been ordered to stay away.

Joshua Latham (31) got into a row with the woman on September 23 last year at an address in Bught Drive, Inverness.

The city's sheriff court heard they were putting their 18-month-old son to bed when an argument broke out and the police were eventually called.

Latham, now of Sutherland Street, Helmsdale, admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner.

Defence agent Duncan Henderson said: "He accepts that this behaviour was unacceptable."

The court heard Latham had previously been ordered by the court to engage with a domestic abuse programme for another matter.

Sheriff David Harvie warned him: "You're running out of chances."

As a direct alternative to custody the sheriff imposed a community payback order.

Latham will be under supervision for one year and he has to carry out 108 hours of unpaid work in the community.

A non-harassment order will also be in place for the next two years.
