Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with four hate crimes at the popular Xoko café in Inverness.

The award-winning café in Bridge Street has been subject to a spate of homophobic incidents in recent months.

These started on July 6 when a rainbow pride flag was removed. A number of other incidents have been reported since, with three following on December 18, 22 and 25 – the last of which saw a flag removed and burnt..

A 42-year-old man has now been arrested and charged and is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 25.

Inspector Daniel Jack from Inverness Police Station said: “We treat all hate incidents with the utmost seriousness and targetting anyone because of who they are is deplorable. Hate crime should have no place in society and will not be tolerated by Police Scotland.”
