A MAN arrested after a family funeral has been given a community payback order.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard police were concerned about the conduct of William Williamson (21) in Union Street, Inverness, and arrested him.

As he was being handcuffed, depute fiscal Niall Macdonald said he struggled violently with two officers and struck one of them on the head with his arm.

Williamson, of Albany Place, Kirkhill, admitted resisting arrest and committing assault on September 20.

Solicitor Clare Russell said Williamson was no stranger to the court and was subject to a previous community payback order, with which he was complying.

“He had been at a family funeral and too much alcohol had been consumed,” she said.

“He took exception to the fact they believed they had reason to arrest him.”

Sheriff David Sutherland placed Williamson on one year’s supervision and ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
