A man stopped in a car by police in Inverness was found with cocaine.

When a police officer stopped a car with a malfunctioning light being driven in Dunabban Road, Inverness they found the driver so nervous and uneasy that more officers were called in to search the vehicle under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Procurator Fiscal Alison Young told Sheriff David Harvie at Inverness Sheriff Court that Antoni Anastas (30), from Essex, had £520 and scales with white powder in the central console.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Anastas, who said he was on holiday staying with a friend in the city's Skinner Court, was then taken to Burnett Road police station in Inverness for a further search.

"Nine bags of white powder were found in sports socks as well as £3100 in cash," the fiscal said. "They tested (positive) for cocaine and had a street value of £900. The property at Skinner Court was then searched. £4800 was found under a bedside cabinet and £320 in a purse on a TV stand."

Solicitor Duncan Henderson said he was not seeking bail for his client who admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Sheriff Harvie called for a background report and Anastas, who was remanded in custody, will return to be sentenced on July 4.
