RAIL journeys on the Inverness-Aberdeen line have been badly disrupted after a car crashed onto the railway.

Network Rail has confirmed that the vehicle is "too close to the rails" for services to safely run following the incident, which occurred between Huntly and Insch.

A spokesman said: "A car has crashed on to the railway between Huntly and Insch. It's too close to the rails for us to safely run trains.

"We're working with the emergency services to have the vehicle removed so that the line can reopen."

Confirming the disruption, a ScotRail spokesman added: "Because of the emergency services dealing with an incident between Inverurie and Huntly all lines are closed. Disruption is expected to last until around 12.00 today (August 8)."
