A sizeable power cut has hit businesses in parts of an Inverness industrial estate.

The city’s Seafield Road in the Longman area has been closed to eastbound traffic while Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) engineers work to resolve the electricity outage.

It has affected a swathe of the Longman, as well as properties near Lotland Street and Cromwell Road.

Motorists are unable to access Seafield Road from the A82 Longman Road due to excavation works related to the incident.

The unplanned outage was first reported at about 7.45am today and is impacting three postcodes – IV1 1LZ, IV1 1SG and IV1 1ST.

SSEN has said there was a fault affecting the area and indicated on its website that the issue could be resolved by 3pm.

Restrictions on Seafield Road will be in place until further notice.

A Highland Council spokesman said: “Seafield Road, Inverness, is closed to eastbound traffic accessing from Longman Road (A82) due to excavation work in connection with a major electricity outage.

“Access to all business premises available from Harbour Road. Duration of closure currently unknown.”
