An Inverness garden centre has donated £10,000 to a Highland cancer charity.

Simpsons Garden Centre raised the cash during its festive ladies night at the end of last month and it brings the grand total given to Maggie’s Highland to £50,000 over the past 10 years.

Maggie’s, which is based at Raigmore Hospital, offers practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer as well as their family and friends.

More than 300 guests attended the sell-out Ladies Festive Evening, at Scotland’s Destination Garden Centre of the Year, where everyone was treated to an evening of music, cocktails, pampering, Christmas shopping and delicious festive food.

Siobhan MacBean, marketing manager at the garden centre, said: “We’re delighted so many ladies came along to support our eighth Festive Ladies night for Maggies. It’s been sorely missed due to Covid-19, there was such a brilliant atmosphere on the night with everyone enjoying everything we had on offer.

“We’re unbelievably thankful to our suppliers and the local businesses that supported the event providing welcome drinks to raffle prizes, food and items for our goody bags.

“It’s a busy time of year for everyone, so by having an evening where everyone can relax, have a pamper and enjoy chatting with friends – as well as support such an important local charity – was a great way to start the festive season. We’ve really missed having this event which is such a milestone in everyone’s festive calendar.

“The fact we’ve now raised £50,000 from this event is to the vital work done by Maggie’s Highland, who play such an important role in the local community, and we’re so proud to continue supporting the work they do.”

Seonaid Green, Maggie’s Highlands’ centre head, said: “Many thanks to everyone who supported Maggie’s Highlands by attending and spending at the Ladies Festive Evening.”

She added: “We supported people affected by cancer 20,000 times this year in NHS Highlands and NHS Western Isles and aim to grow this number again in 2023.”

Everyone with cancer can access free support through an evidence-based programme.
