The main Inverness Highland Games bar tent will be taken over by MacGregor’s Traditional Music for a day-long session of music and dancing at this year’s Inverness Highland Games, the organisers have announced.

The games will take place on Saturday July 15 at Bught Park in the city where the beer tent will be taken over by Bruce MacGregor and other traditional musicians.

The event will act not just as a showcase for local talent with a fantastic selection of live music but also some of the finest beverages available from local suppliers.

Whisky tasting

MacGregors Bar will be offering three sittings of their Highland Malt Whisky Experience so patrons can savour five exquisite malts while hearing the stories, myths and legends of the north.

There will be three separate shows at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm but it does not stop there as the organisers say that “no visit to the Highland Games would be complete without taking part in a Highland Ceilidh.”

Participants will learn some of the great ceilidh dances – the Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow and the Eightsome reel – and it will start at 7pm in the Main Bar Tent concluding at 11pm.

Tickets are available through the Inverness Highland Games website and attendees are warned that it is for over 18’s only.

The price of a day ticket is £10 and those attending the ceilidh – which is not included in the price of the day ticket – will need to fork out £15.

A Highland Ceilidh, what could be better than that?'

Bruce MacGregor said: “We are absolutely delighted to be staging this ourselves with local musicians and a load of other musicians from around the country and plenty of others as well.

“We will have to see how it goes but this is really what we should be doing more of in the Highlands and it could be something to build on by giving people an authentic Highland experience.

“A lot of this follows on from our own Bogmanay [New Year] event where you have all the young people coming up for a dance and have a great time to enjoy themselves and that is very much what we want to see.

“This will be great for visitors to Inverness which we want to encourage but it is absolutely not just for tourists because we want locals to come along to enjoy themselves.

“I mean a Highland Ceilidh, what could be better than that?”

The Provost of Inverness Glynis Campbell Sinclair said: “On behalf of the Events and Festivals Working Group I am delighted to welcome Bruce MacGregor and friends to the Inverness Highland Games.

“Bruce will bring a phenomenal additional attraction to an already exciting program. We hope that families and visitors come and enjoy a very exciting day and indeed evening!

“Please remember to go online as soon as possible to buy your tickets for the Games (£10) and Ceilidh (£15) noting that entry to the evening event is limited so tickets will go fast.”
