Are you looking to build your own house? Do some renovations to your property or restore an historic building? Got the vision but no idea where to start? There is an event coming to the Highlands which can help you!

Scottish Self-Build and Renovation is returning to the Highlands once again and it can provide you with everything you need to make your dream become a reality.

Taking place at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort in Aviemore on Saturday, September 17, this free-to-attend event will have a hall full of experts geared up and looking forward to supporting you with your project, with innovative products and services, providing you with the tools you need to progress your project.

With everything ranging from plot finding, finance, architects and project management, to energy efficiency, smart home technology and ways to cut your energy bills, this event has everything under one roof to inspire and excite you with your construction project.

Scottish Self-Build and Renovation (SSBR) was launched by Aberdeen-based quantity surveyor Gavin Esslemont in 2018, to provide a showcase for the flourishing sector in the north-east of Scotland, and has since established annual events in Tayside and the Highlands. SSBR has now developed an online information portal where self-build renovation and restoration enthusiasts can find expert advice at their fingertips.

Director of SSBR, Gavin Esslemont, talked to Executive Magazine about the importance of these events and why you should attend this month’s conference.

“As the popularity of self-build projects continues to grow in Scotland, it’s great to see Scottish Self-Build and Renovation supported by the industry and self-build enthusiasts throughout Scotland.

“With the addition of the online portal, we are creating the opportunity to connect the sector both face to face and online throughout the year and throughout the country.

“SSBR is all about connecting self-build and renovation innovators and project enthusiasts locally, meaning that travel is minimised and people can get continued local advice for their projects.

“We encourage attendees to prepare by going on the website, checking out who will be there and who they want to see, bring drawings, photos, visuals, so that they can get the best out of the event.

“Be prepared to spend the day getting the information that you need, attend the seminars, take a coffee break and enjoy the relaxed environment that we hope that we have created! Folks can make a real day of it and gain insight to help with their visions.”

“The online portal is already proving popular, with well over £1million of enquiries being referred through the platform since its launch in March this year. It’s rewarding to see the benefit that this is having for the sector to build relationships, particularly during uncertain times of increasing prices and supply chain concerns.”

“Self-build and renovation projects are not for the faint-hearted. However, done right, using the best expert advice available and being knowledgeable about the latest innovations, this can make the endeavour so rewarding, not just in the short-term but as a long-term investment.”
