RNLI Loch Ness was involved in a callout following reports of a capsized canoe.

Volunteer crew members at Loch Ness RNLI lifeboat station had their first shout of 2022 following a report of a capsized canoe.

The incident happened at 3.45pm yesterday when the initial report stated two people had gone into the water after their canoe capsized in large waves on the loch.

While the lifeboat was launched, some local tour boats began a search and located the people on a shoreline further up the loch.

A statement issued by Loch Ness RNLI said: "The lifeboat made best speed to the position in difficult conditions and was able to successfully put a crew member ashore and make contact with the casualties.

"It was found they were in good health, cold and wet but unharmed."

Police officers helped from the road and the casualties were taken back to the lifeboat station where they were checked over by members of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The statement added: "This shout highlights the importance of wearing your personal floatation device whilst out on the water.

"Thankfully, both members of the canoe were correctly wearing their personal floatation devices and this undoubtably played a part in safely making it to shore."
