To celebrate British Pie Week, pastry specialists Jus-Rol decided to create an art pie-ce of Nessie out of pies.

The image is made up of more than 1600 handmade pies, using a combination of shortcrust, puff and filo pastry.

The masterpiece took three days to create and cocoa powder, currants, sesame seeds, caster sugar and brown sugar were used for the outlining and some of the detailing.

Holly Bouldin from Jus-Rol says, “Jus-Rol, British Pie Week aims to inspire the nation to celebrate one of the greatest British classic foods and we wanted to pay tribute to that love by creating an impressive image which is synonymous with Scotland.”

As well as the artwork, Jus-Rol ran a UK-wide poll ahead of pie week, which runs next week. It uncovered that the average Scot eats three pies a month and Scotland’s all-time favourite flavour was beef and ale.

The poll also showed that one in 10 Scots bake a homemade pie twice a month. And if there isn’t a rolling pin to hand Scottish people are the most likely, in the UK, to reach for a wine bottle as an alternative.
