Loch Ness Marathon features among top 10 most in-demand marathons in the world

The Loch Ness Marathon is ranked among the top ten most in-demand marathons around the world, according to a recent survey.

The Highland running event has surpassed the London Marathon and ranked as the UK's 2nd most in-demand after the New Forest Marathon.

The study was carried out by experts at SportsShoes.com who have analysed global Google search demand for over 60 of the world's most famous marathons and compared this to the available starting spaces for each race.

According to the survey, the Loch Ness 24 searches per place this year.

In 2023, the Loch Ness Marathon welcomed more than 5100 runners from 45 different countries – the second highest number of participants in the event’s history.

The event is regarded as one of the world’s most scenic marathons and will return on September 29 this year.

With nearly 650,000 global searches made for terms like 'how to get into a marathon' made in the past year, more and more athletes and aspiring runners are vying for a place in the world's most prestigious 42km events.

The study found that the most in-demand marathon in the world is in Boston, where the race receives almost 100 searches per place, followed by Regensburg and Monschau marathons in Germany.
