The outdoor experts at Blacks have put together a list of their favourite autumn hikes across the UK, with Loch Affric Circuit in Inverness being named amongst one of the best in the country for a beautiful scenic walk.

Loch Affric is a magnificent circuit that passes through both fine pinewood and moorland scenery, with stunning views of the rugged mountains that tower high above .

This entire circular is about 12 miles, and is most suited to those with a lot of endurance but can be explored in sections by those who prefer something less strenuous.

Abundant wildlife, stunning scenery and incredible streams are bound to captivate you along the way.

Ethan Ball, author and outdoor enthusiast from Blacks, said: "Loch Affric is without a doubt the most adventurous location on our list, with narrow paths in parts and streams that can become somewhat dangerous to cross in wetter weather, it’s one to be mindful of the forecast when taking on."

He continued: "Its rich biodiversity, including red deer and golden eagles, adds to its allure. The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering hiking and wildlife watching opportunities, and its conservation efforts preserve this unique ecosystem.

"Loch Affric's remote and tranquil setting, historical significance, and status as a Dark Sky Park make it a captivating and extraordinary destination and thus why it's been included in our beautiful autumn hikes story."

When hiking along this breath taking circuit, you'll be amazed by the magnificent Loch Affric that sits below the striking surrounding mountains.

A’ Chralaig and Sgùrr na Lapaich surround this one of a kind hike and create a skyline that has to be seen to be believed.

This hike is laden with old bridges to cross and smaller ancient lochs to pass, such as Loch Salach a Ghiublais.

However, make no mistake, this route is not for first-time hikers, but the views are more than worth the effort.

And for the truly adventurous, there are plenty of spots to camp to see the mountains cloaked in morning mists, provided they’ve got the right kit to take on the cold autumn nights.

Other autumnal hikes that have been suggested by Blacks in their top five list are: Cader Idris Pony Path in Snowdonia, Mam Tor in the Peak District and Carbisdale Circuit in the Scottish Highlands.
