A local man has become the youngest McDonald’s franchisee in Scotland.

Iain Fyfe has today become the new owner and operator of the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant in Nairn.

The 33-year-old businessman was born and raised in Inverness, and has family in Nairn, which is why the purchase of this restaurant is close to his heart.

This comes after nine months of intensive training with McDonald’s, learning everything from how to make the brand’s signature burgers to how to operate management systems.

Mr Fyfe quit his corporate job in Dubai in order to pursue his goal of becoming a McDonald’s franchisee.

“I took a leap of faith by leaving my job, as I didn’t know which area I would be offered a restaurant in,” he says.

“When I was told it would be Nairn I was delighted, not only because it means my family can stay in our hometown, but also because Nairn is special to us.

“My wife’s family live in Nairn and my daughters spend weekends playing on the beach here.”

Owning his own business has always been a goal for Mr Fyfe, and he returned to the Highlands of Scotland in 2020, having spent almost nine years in Dubai working as head of operations for a large facilities management company.

“It’s fantastic to be home,” he explains.

“I can’t wait to get started – community is so important to me, and I plan for McDonald’s Nairn to be a force for good in this area.

“My wife Sarah and I are already finalising charity work and community projects, which we will announce soon.”

McDonald’s Nairn is based in Balmakeith Retail Park and opened in December 2019, shortly before the Covid 19 pandemic.

Mr Fyfe added: “This will be the restaurant’s first full summer without any restrictions. I hope that we can show the community and tourists visiting the area all we have to offer – it’s much more than the menu that our customers know and love.

“We have a great outdoor area with a small playpark which will be fantastic during the warm weather, and inside the restaurant kids will be entertained with iPads and colouring in.”
