Nairn sheltered housing residents were surprised when they found free food had been left on their doorsteps.

It was donated following a collaboration by local fisherman Steven Clarke and caterer Donnie McLeod who produced fish pies.

They were delivered to Whinnieknowe Gardens, which is operated by Trust Housing Association, and Stephanie Wallace, the trust's sheltered housing co-ordinator, said they were contacted by the caterer last week.

She said Mr Clarke had said he wanted to give something back to the elderly living in Nairn and, if he provided the fish, would Mr McLeod produce the meals.

"I think it was a very generous gesture from not only Steven, but also Donnie for making up the meals," she said. "I was quite overwhelmed when Donnie contacted me.

"The residents were delighted and could not believe people could be so generous and thoughful. This is a large sheltered housing development with 30 flats and the residents are all, basically on lockdown.

"All our events have been cancelled here and tenants are not getting the social contact they enjoy. Some are going out occasionally to get food shopping but most are staying in. So a gesture like this makes all the difference to their day and really cheered them up."
